With the holiday season approaching, the Indian consumer electronics market, particularly the smart TV segment, is gearing up to make it count as the first half of the year was rather disappointing due to the pandemic outbreak.
Therefore, it is not surprising that we see brands introducing their latest and greatest products to the market, and also the ecommerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart have already started coming up with technical deals that offer the users an attractive discount.
On the same wave, Toshiba, which recently announced its debut in India, has announced the availability of its smart LED TVs in India. These new TVs with internet connection are available in sizes from 32 inch to the premium 65 inch 4K QLED TVs.

A regular warranty applies to purchases made after this promotional period.
The company’s premium range begins with the U79 series. These 4L LED TVs offer features such as full-array local dimming, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, a wide color gamut and have a minimal bezel design. Like other TVs from the Toshiba brand, these also run on Vidaa OS and Alexa is built in.

Why a sudden increase in affordable smart LED TVs in India?
There was a time when purchasing a smart TV would cost you anywhere from Rs. 1.6 to Rs. 1.7 lakh and were considered a status symbol. You can now take home a smart LED TV for just Rs. 12,000. This sharp fall in prices is directly related to the increased demand.
Compared to the earlier times when we could count the brand selling LED TV at our fingertips, we now have more than 80 brands selling TVs in India. According to CounterpointThe television market in India has not yet penetrated and has a volume of more than 200 million sales. For most of these companies, this is a huge opportunity and even a small slice of this market is a huge business opportunity for them.
Cost aside, smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Honor etc. TVs offer yet another way to get the customer into their “ecosystem” and in turn sell more products. While these companies are already involved in the creation of phones, branching into the IoT ecosystem makes business sense and can provide users with multiple access points, with the smartphone remaining the core product. Other relevant IoT products and accessories include smart speakers, smart lights, security cameras, sound bars, etc.
Since data is considered the new oil, with a new Internet-enabled device in your home, these tech companies can assess how their users enjoy spending time with family and their media consumption habits. This further opens a pandora’s box of content collaborations, targeting, and ads driven by deeper analysis of both your smartphone and smart TV usage.
